Eligibility Criteria For Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) In Canada
Completed a Program of Study at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI):
You must meet this requirement if you completed a full time program of study at a Canadian DLI which is at least 8 months long.
Valid Study Permit:
You must have has a valid study permit while you were studying in Canada.
Full-Time Student Status:
The government requires anyone who seeks its assistance in paying for their education to have been learning in Canada and as a fulltime student throughout the duration of your study program. If you had part time study as part of your program, it may be possible for you to continue, but there are circumstances.
Program Completion:
You must have completed your program of study and have been awarded a degree, diploma or certificate from the DLI.
Application Within 180 Days:
You have to apply for the PGWP within 180 days of getting your last transcript or official confirmation (such as a degree or completion letter) from your school or university.
Only One PGWP:
To use this permit, you can only get one Post-Graduation Work Permit, so applying it after the first eligible program should be done.
No Previous PGWP Application:
If you once held a PGWP and it has expired, you are not qualified to obtain another PGWP unless special circumstances existed and prevented you from applying earlier (for example, if you were sick).
Not Eligible for Distance Learning Programs:
Students also cannot complete more than 50% of their program through distance learning or online courses and may not be eligible for a PGWP unless COVID-19 restrictions apply.
