Eligibility Criteria

To sponsor your parents or grandparents for Canadian permanent residency, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Age and Status:
To be 18 years or older and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada, or a Person registered in the Canadian Indian Act.

Residency:
Live in Canada during the sponsorship process.

Financial Requirements:
For the past three tax years, demonstrate that you have adequate income to support you and then, if including the sponsored individuals, you will also meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI).

Legal Obligations:
Just as you commit to financially support the sponsored people for 20 years (10 years if you’re living in Quebec) and to repay any social assistance they could be receiving during that time.

Admissibility:
Make sure they can be admitted to Canada medically, criminally and biographically.
